Hua Sha Chinese Dance Center
Hua Sha Chinese Dance Center is a
non-profit organization founded in 1996 by the famous Chinese dance
artist Ms. Xiao Fang Xu.
The mission of the organization is to preserve and promote Chinese
performing arts and culture in a newly emerging and changing American
culture; preserve the Chinese performing arts and traditions of the
past and ensure that the Chinese communities retain connections to
their cultural heritage.
The Center is dedicated to training students who enjoy Chinese
classical and folk dance. The Hua Sha Performing Arts Group is made up
of advanced students and professional guest artists. The dance group
performs traditional Chinese dances in both Chinese and American
communities for the purpose of cultural exchange. So far, the group has
performed at the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Institution, the
Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore, Artscape in Baltimore, Dance Festival
by Maryland Council for the Arts, National Institute of Science and
Technology (NIST), National Institute of Health (NIH), Asian Pacific
festivals and many more.
Every year, Hua Sha hosts a major performance which includes Chinese
classical and folk dances as well as featured guest musicians and
singers from China. This performance venue has been a great success and
has won Hua Sha numerous accolades for more than a decade.
